Sen. Hutchison Discusses Transportation Priorities, Economic Development at Denison Press Conference
Sen. Hutchison: “Aviation System is Critical to the Movement of American Goods and People”
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Texas’ senior Senator, participated in a press conference at the Grayson County Airport to discuss transportation priorities and economic development in the region.
“The Grayson County Airport plays a crucial role in facilitating the free flow of commerce through North Texas,” said Sen. Hutchison. “I’m pleased that the Federal Aviation Administration has recently taken action to expand and improve facilities and services at the airport. These investments will spur development in the region and help create jobs in an economic downturn. I will continue to do all I can to ensure that regional airports like the Grayson County Airport receive the resources they need to help grow the local economy.”
Sen. Hutchison, Ranking Member of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, expects to introduce and pass reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and its airport funding programs. This legislation will include increased levels of funding for airports and the next generation satellite-based air traffic control system.
In April, 2009, the FAA awarded $6.8 million in grant funding to the Grayson County Airport to rehabilitate the longer of its two runways, which handles all jet and larger freight operations. Earlier in Fiscal Year 2009, the airport received $4 million in FAA Airport Improvement Program funds to repave all six taxiways. In Fiscal Year 2008, the FAA awarded $5.31 million to Grayson County Airport to upgrade its drainage system.
