Senator Hutchison Releases Statement on Her Vote Against Striking F-22 Funding from Defense Authorization Bill
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) voted against Amendment 1469, which strikes $1,750,000,000 in Air Force funding for F-22A aircraft procurement from the Defense Authorization Bill. The Amendment passed the U.S. Senate by a 58-40 vote. Sen. Hutchison made the following statement regarding its passage:
“A strong national defense is key to the safety and security of the American people. We are a nation at war and must be prepared to meet a variety of threats – from counterinsurgency warfare to conventional warfare. The F-22 will play an important role in responding to future threats we may face, and it will help ensure that our military remains the most powerful in the world,” said Sen. Hutchison. “Administration officials have yet to provide Congress with a detailed analysis of why they believe the F-22 Raptor program should be discontinued. It’s important that production of the F-22 be continued until the Pentagon’s 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review is complete and can be studied, allowing for an informed decision.”
